I play to RP and I'm not too bothered with min/maxing but the research required to unlock the L-gate means the AI should never unleash the Grey Tempest too early unless you're playing on a higher difficulty and they research faster. I really don't see what the problem with them is. Even in the show, they had some buildup to the confrontation, early encounters, plot twists, an origin story, allies (and even old enemies) working together and so forth, before it turns into full apocalyptic mode. Can't see any positive point to this implementation though. The idea of essentially fighting the Stargate Replicators is cool, in the abstract. You'd expect them to behave like a plague that's spreading in a fairly predictable manner, which would both emphasize their alien nature and avoid the "hello, the gate opened 10 days ago and we're already at your homeworld" syndrome. It makes no sense that they would immediately be aware of sentient creatures' borders, they don't communicate and haven't been around for millenia. They go after specific empires and completely clean them out before moving on to the next. The Tempest also behave in a way that makes it clear they're just a regular empire at war with everyone with aggression cranked to the max. They keep finding more urgent resolutions to discuss like preserving the space whales, while being eaten alive. The Galactic Council never gets to discussing them either, so pathetic. It makes the game completely pointless to continue, even if by some miracle we were to manage building a ~30k stack and go on the offensive, by the time we save our own empires there would be nobody interesting left in the galaxy to interact with, only a bunch of unexploitable nanite worlds. And of course Curators, Artisan Troupe, every single minor faction is killed. Some idiots attempt to use the L-cluster as a shortcut and get wrecked. I've run the game on fast-forward and they destroy absolutely everything, the AI factions have zero chance and don't even appear to be fighting back at all. In 2287, the Tempest has 30 x 32k fleets, and then later there's an event that spawns an extra fleet at every gate.Īttacking their homeworld which I'm assuming would shut down their whole operation doesn't seem even remotely achievable either, it's guarded by a 61.6k station and six 32k fleets. Just to see what would happen I loaded our MP game in solo and used cheats to observe.
